Pressure/Storage Tank Replacement
If you live in a rural area then you may depend on a private water source, such as a well. Most wells use an electric pump that transports water into the home. This water is then temporarily stored in a well water tank or what is commonly referred to as a pressure tank. There is a pocket of compressed air that helps maintain water pressure in between the pump cycles. This stores several gallons of water so that the pump doesn’t have to be used as often. Any problem with the tank will be noticeable because it will continue to cycle on and off, which can produce expensive repair problems. We are capable of helping with your repairs at Huntersville Well Drilling.
How A Pressure Tank Operates
The well pressure tank has a pocket of air and when water is being pumped into it from the bottom, air is then compressed until it reaches the desired water pressure. The pump will eventually turn off and the pressure of the air eventually pushes the water out of your fixtures to be used. When the pressure in the tank drops below the pressure minimum, which is typically 30 or 40 PSI, the pump turns on to provide additional water and pressurizes the tank. In the past, water tanks didn’t have any separation between the air and water, which meant they often became waterlogged. Newer tanks have a float that helps separate the air and water and a bladder to contain the water, keeping it from the air. When there is any leak in the tank it reduces pressure and the tank will become waterlogged.
